The online future is here!
It has become apparent during the lockdowns that shops which have a strong online presence are performing exceptionally well despite many not even being allowed to have people in to browse. Going back 10 years it would basically be unheard of to purchase fish you haven't even seen with your own eyes but it is happening and will be here to stay even now with some lockdown restrictions lifting. The convenience and efficiency online shopping offers benefits those who have built an online presence, (who hasn’t hit ‘add to cart’ without even thinking twice?) Similar trends happened like this overseas many, many years ago and now Australia is adopting these new techniques that may seem totally foreign to us. Similar online trends have happened in terms of dating, grocery shopping, clothing etc. and people now expect to be able to shop from the comfort of their own lounges.
I would certainly recommend all shops who don't currently have an online store or actively advertise their products online via Facebook or other means should do so right now. It is a prime way to target your customer base and turn over stock that would otherwise be waiting for someone to find it.
The basics you need to ship fish are:
• Oxygen bottle
• packing supplies (fish bags, foam boxes, tape, heat packs and rubber bands)
• a reliable courier service
• a good doa policy
• and super healthy livestock.
